Teacher Training on-site at Hurst College

Teacher Training – Teach Hurst

The programme

We are looking to recruit well-qualified graduates/undergraduates to become teachers, across a variety of subject areas 鈥 Maths, English, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Psychology, Economics, Business Studies, Computer Science, Politics, French, Spanish, Latin, Religious Studies, History, Geography, Art, DT, Music, Dance, Drama, PE and Primary Education.

One key to our success as a school is excellent staff. Hurst has always made it a priority of recruiting and training individuals who have the potential to become outstanding teachers and future school leaders. We value all our teachers and whether you join us straight from university, or after an initial career in another area of work, we believe every teacher鈥檚 experience and background are important. Most of all we are interested in people with enthusiasm and the drive to become brilliant teachers.

Our pioneering Teach Hurst programme, which launched in 2015, gives us many years of experience in running a teacher training scheme. Teach Hurst is the result of a considerable investment of time and finances in our new teachers 鈥 and the success of our training can be seen in the quality of our teachers and their testimonials.

As a teacher, from day one you will receive a 拢30,000 starting salary, free on-site accommodation, and free meals. Our programme is fully funded and includes sponsorship of a PGCE with QTS in your second year. Throughout the programme you will work closely with a mentor to build confidence in skills, knowledge and pedagogy. This is achieved through observations, phased in class teaching, and bespoke training sessions. Many of our Teach Hurst teachers go on to take up positions of responsibilities early in their careers.

The main aspect that drew me to Teach Hurst over a regular PGCE route was the way in which I was able to work in the classroom straight away. This may seem quite daunting but I was supported by my mentor, Head of Department, Director of Teach Hurst and a large group of like-minded individuals who were also beginning their training. Mr Nick Chadwell, Housemaster and Business Studies Teacher
